Brand designer, Altuon’un işe aldığı bir rol
Brand designer
The designer whose identity still holds after the engineers have shipped it and the group has acquired two more companies.
The brand designer designs the identity systems Altuon delivers to groups with many operating companies and more than one script, and delivers them as infrastructure: tokens, type systems, colour systems, templates and the rules that keep them coherent after handover. The role designs in Latin and Arabic together, treats accessibility as a constraint on the identity rather than a check after it, and sits close enough to engineering that what is designed is what ships. It is a hands-on role: the designer draws the mark and writes the token that encodes it.

- Tüm bölgeler
- İstihdam
- Full-time employment or a long-term engagement, by agreement.
- Konum
- Remote within Europe, the Middle East or North America, with travel to client sites in the engagement's region.
- Çalışma dilleri
- English; Arabic, German or French in addition where the engagement requires it.
Sorumluluklar
- 01Design identity as a system of tokens. Colour, type, space, radius, elevation and motion are named, versioned and held in one source, and every template, component and document consumes them. Design the token, not only the artefact that consumes it.
- 02Build type and colour systems that survive engineering: a variable typeface cut to its roles by width and weight, a colour system with contrast tested in every pairing the system permits, and documentation an engineer can implement without a design review for every screen.
- 03Treat WCAG 2.2 AA as a constraint on the identity. Contrast, focus states, target sizes, text spacing and motion preferences are decided in the palette and the type scale, so the identity is accessible by construction and no surface has to break it to comply.
- 04Design Arabic and Latin together: a pair of typefaces with reconciled vertical metrics, mirrored layout rules, numerals and punctuation resolved, and lockups that hold in either script and in a line that switches between them. Neither script is the translation of the other.
- 05Govern the brand across a group. Work with the client's brand team on the architecture rules, the request path, the review cadence and the release process that carries a token change to every surface at once, so an acquisition or a renaming is absorbed by the system rather than argued from scratch.
- 06Review implementation. Sit with the client's engineers and Altuon's, read the stylesheets and the component library against the tokens, and treat a drift between the design and the build as a defect on one side or the other, to be fixed at its source.
- 07Contribute to the practice: the token architecture, the type pairings, the accessibility method and the written positions the firm publishes on identity.
İlk doksan gün
The first month is spent on one live identity engagement, alongside the practice lead, reading the brand architecture, the token source, the type pairing and the accessibility audit before changing any of them. The aim is to understand why every decision was made, and to find the two or three that should be revisited.
The second month is the first part of the system owned end to end: a colour system extension, a family of document templates or an Arabic lockup, designed, tested for contrast and for both reading directions, and released through the engagement's process, with the client's brand team and engineers involved from the review. By its end the designer is presenting that work to the client's brand council.
The third month is the first identity design led alone, for a new sub-brand or a new phase of an existing engagement, with the practice lead in the room as a reviewer rather than the author. The token set, the type system and the governance proposal are the designer's own by the ninetieth day.
Neler değerlendirilir
- Systems thinking
- A design exercise for a group with three operating companies, two scripts and an acquisition on the way. We look for an architecture and a token set with reasons, not a mood board.
- Typographic judgement
- A conversation about a Latin and Arabic type pairing you admire and one you do not, and why. We listen for vertical metrics, rhythm and numerals, not for the names of typefaces.
- Accessibility as design
- A colour system reviewed for contrast in every pairing it permits. We want to see where WCAG 2.2 AA made the identity better and where you fought it.
- Engineering literacy
- A review of a component library built from a token set, with a drift in it. We want to know whether the design or the build is wrong, and how you would fix it at the source.
- Clarity in front of a board
- Presenting an identity decision to a non-designer who is allowed to interrupt. A group's chairman will do this to you; we do it first.
Ne ararız
- Years of designing identity systems that shipped in code, including at least one for an organisation with several operating companies and at least one you had to watch drift.
- Fluency in design tokens and the tooling that holds them, and enough CSS to read what an engineer did with your work.
- Experience of designing in Arabic and Latin together, or in another pairing of scripts with opposite reading directions, and the rigour that requires.
- A portfolio in which accessibility is visible in the palette and the type scale rather than in a checklist appended to the guidelines.
- Evidence of governing a brand after launch: a release process, a decision-rights model or a brand team you trained to hold the keys.
- Working English; Arabic, German or French in addition is valued in the regions where the firm works.
